Overview:

NEC’s unbeaten surge gathers pace as their win deepens Mbarara City’s relegation worries, while BUL tighten their grip on the top eight and UPDF edge further from danger after a stalemate with URA.

Friday results

NEC 1–0 Mbarara City

UPDF 0–0 URA

Express 0–2 BUL

Matchday 25 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League delivered some telling signals at both ends of the table, with NEC tightening their grip on a top-five finish while Mbarara City slipped deeper into relegation trouble.

At Lugogo on Friday, NEC edged Mbarara City 1–0 to climb to 44 points, strengthening fifth place and closing in on the top four.

Hannington Sebwalunyo struck just after the break, reacting quickest to convert a rebound from a saved penalty – a moment that underlined NEC’s growing resilience during their unbeaten run.

The Lugogo side have now gone 15 matches unbeaten, their last defeat coming against KCCA last December.

For Mbarara City, who had hoped to build on their fightback draw against Maroons, the defeat leaves them 14th on 17 points, just two above the drop zone and with mounting pressure.

In Bombo, UPDF and URA settled for a goalless draw that did little to ease either side’s concerns.

UPDF move to 21 points in 12th, maintaining a slim cushion above danger, while URA remain 11th on 24 points, their struggles for wins continuing.

Elsewhere, BUL strengthened their top-eight ambitions with a 2–0 away win over Express at Nakivubo.

Goals from Pascal Ngoobi and Innocent Rwothomiyo lifted BUL to 34 points in eighth, opening a four-point gap over 10th-placed Express, who stay on 30.
