UPDF pip Mbarara as Wakiso, Lugazi share spoils

UPDF 2-1 Mbarara City

UPDF recovered from their 5-0 thumping at the hands of SC Villa to beat Mbarara City 2-1 on Wednesday in Bombo.

Frank Gladson Mugisa and Benard Muwanga scored the Red Eagles goals while Henry Kitegenyi got the visitors consolation in this StarTimes Uganda Premier League match.

The result lifts UPDF up to fourth place on 12 points while Mbarara City remain 10th on nine.

Mugisa put the home side ahead in the 17th minute, scoring from a well taken direct free kick.

UPDF captain, Muwanga, doubled the advantage at the stroke of halftime, converting from the spot after a Mbarara City player held the ball in the box.

Mbarara did pull one back through Kitegenyi from close range but the hosts held on to secure victory.

Elsewhere, Wakiso Giants and Lugazi could only play out a goalless draw at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
