Mbarara City 0-3 Maroons
URA 1-1 NEC
StarTimes Uganda Premier League leaders, NEC, missed an opportunity to open a four-point lead at the top but will be thankful for a point in a come-from-behind 1-1 draw against 10-man URA on Thursday.
It took Paul Mucureezi’s 70th minute strike to cancel out Godfrey Sekibengo’s first half goal and earn Hussein Mbalangu’s side a point at Nakivubo.
URA were to have Hudu Mulikyi shown a straight red card seven minutes later after he retaliated Enoch Ssebagala’s foul with a stamp on the latter’s chest.
NEC remain top of the standings on 23 points, two more than Vipers SC, who have played a game fewer.
On their part, coach Alex Isabirye’s URA, who have now drawn three, won four and lost as many, are eighth on 15 points.
In Mbarara, Maroons thrashed the hosts 3-0 at Kakyeka Stadium with Baden Mujahid Ogama grabbing a brace and Godwin Kitagenda scoring the other goal.
Ogama got his and Maroons’ first inside three minutes before completing his brace on 51 minutes, when he capitalised on a misunderstanding between Mbarara goalkeeper Abdul Kimera and defender Karim Ramathan.
Kitagenda then finished the good day at office for the visitors with Maroons’ third in the 65th minute.
This was Maroons’ fourth victory in 11 matches, moving them to sixth place on 16 points.
Mbarara’s fifth defeat leaves them two places above relegation in 11th with 12 points.
