Wednesday results
URA 2-0 Mbarara City
Express 1-1 Maroons
URA secured their first win in 10 matches with a 2–0 triumph over Mbarara City in a rain-affected contest at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
Ronald Otti put URA ahead in the 35th minute, finishing off a move assisted by Disan Galiwango after a measured build-up.
The hosts were awarded a penalty shortly after when goalkeeper Derrick Emukule fouled Fred Amaku inside the area.
Moses Waiswa converted from the spot in the 43rd minute to double the advantage.
Conditions deteriorated as heavy rain made the turf increasingly slippery, prompting the centre referee to suspend play in the 55th minute.
With the pitch waterlogged, stadium management worked to clear the surface before players returned and the match resumed from the same minute.
URA managed the remainder of the game effectively despite the challenging conditions, restricting Mbarara City’s attempts at a comeback. Otti was named Man of the Match for his decisive opener.
The result lifts URA to 18 points from as many matches, though they remain 12th on the table. Mbarara City sit one place and three points below them.
In the other fixture, Express and Maroons played out a 1–1 draw.
Maroons took the lead in the 75th minute through Jackson Nunda. Express responded six minutes later when Kenneth Kimera scored in the 81st minute, assisted by Mickdadi Ssenyonga, to salvage a point for the Red Eagles.
The draw marks Express’ fourth straight stalemate and extends their winless run to five matches, their last victory being a 3–1 success over Buhimba United Saints. The Red Eagles remain 10th on 19 points.
Maroons, whose last win was against Express in a 3–1 result on December 17 last year, are a place above the Red Eagles on goal difference.
