URA 2-0 Maroons

Vipers SC 1-1 Soltilo Bright Stars

URA bounced back from their last defeat to Wakiso Giants to see off 10-man Maroons 2-0 in Thursday’s early kickoff in Njeru.

Goals from Enoch Walusimbi and Norman Namanya were enough for coach David Obua’s side to claim their third win in the last four StarTimes Uganda Premier League matches.

URA’as eighth win in 19 matches helps them dislodge Express from seventh place, where the Tax Collectors now sit on 30 points, nine away from leaders Kitara. Maroons are just above URA on goal difference.

The taxmen went ahead on 20 minutes through Walusimbi before Namanya sealed the victory when he connected home Joseph Semujju’s ball 10 minutes later.

The day turned from bad to worse for the visitors, Maroons, when Norman Odipio, who got his first booking in the first half, was sent off 14 minutes from full time.

Elsewhere, defending champions, Vipers SC, ceded more ground in the title race when they were held 1-1 by Soltilo Bright Stars in a night game at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Eric Kambale gave the hosts the lead on 31 minutes but Bright Stars struck back through Shafic Kakande 13 minutes into the second half to hold on for a crucial point.

Vipers, who remain third on the table, move to 32 points, seven behind leaders Kitara, who have played two matches more. Bright Stars are 11th on 23 points.
