Following another season of underachievement, URA have began preps for the forthcoming season with the appointment of Alex Isabirye as Head coach.

The former Express and URA coach among other teams managed has signed a one-year contract with the four-time league champions.

“We are delighted to officially announce the appointment of Alex Isabirye Musongola as our new head coach, signing him on a one-year contract,” read a statement on the club website.

He officially takes over on a permanent basis from David Obua who left the club before closure of the concluded campaign with Robert Mukasa taking charge on a caretaker basis.

Isabirye won URA’s latest league title in 2010/11 and also helped them win the Stanbic Uganda Cup in 2012 when they beat Vipers in the finals in Gulu.

Club CEO Allan Munaaba say: “We are optimistic that Isabirye’s return will revive our glory days, with his vast experience and previous success with the team being seen as key assets. His immediate challenge will be preparing the squad for the grand opening of the newly refurbished Nakivubo War memorial Stadium where we last won our league title as home ground.”

Isabirye will be in charge when URA plays Kitara on June 1st at Nakivubo stadium grand opening.

Besides the triumphs at URA, Isabirye won the league and cup double with Vipers in 2022/23, won the Uganda Cup with BUL in 2022 and the Uganda Cup with SC Victoria University in 2014.
