SC Villa 6-1 Wakiso Giants
Mbarara City 1-0 Mbale Heroes
SC Villa returned to winning ways in style, thrashing visiting Wakiso Giants 6-1 at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku as matchday nine wound up on Saturday.
Brace hero Charles Lwanga, Patrick Kakande, Hakim Kiwanuka, Reagan Mpande and David Owori netted for coach Morley Byekwaso’s Villa, while Marvin Oshaba got Wakiso’s consolation.
Villa’s fourth win in nine matches saw them jump six places up to fourth on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table with 14 points, six behind leaders Vipers SC.
Wakiso’s fourth defeat keeps them a place above relegation on nine points.
The Jogoos came into Saturday’s fixture on the back of a 1-0 defeat to bitter rivals, Express, but had put five past UPDF without reply before that.
On their part, coach Steven Bengo’s Wakiso came into Saturday on the back of two draws and three defeats in their last five.
But it is Villa who stepped up the gear at Nakivubo. The Blues went ahead in the 14th minute when Lwanga prodded home Mpande’s neat delivery.
Player of the Match, Kakande made it 2-0 on 32 minutes after a brilliant run from the centre before beating his marker to find the top corner.
A half time change for SC Villa, in which Byekwaso withdraw Najib Yiga for Hakim Kiwanuka, produced results seven minutes after the break.
Kiwanuka found space through to goal and beat Wakiso goalkeeper Henry Mwebe before slotting into an empty net for 3-0 in the 52nd minute.
Wakiso got an opportunity to pull one back through a penalty after Villa’s Simon Ssemayange handled in the box.
Oshaba made no mistake from the penalty spot, sending Jean Braddy Wokorach the wrong way for 3-1 on 57 minutes.
But Villa were not done. Kakande teed up Lwanga for the latter’s brace and 4-1 to Villa on 64 minutes, before Mpande added the fifth 13 minutes from full time.
Owori then added the icing on the cake with a long range strike that took a deflection as it sailed into the net for a comprehensive 6-1 victory four minutes to full time.
Elsewhere, Joseph Akandwanaho scored the winner as hosts Mbarara City beat Mbale Heroes 1-0 at Kakyeka Stadium.
Mbarara’s third win in nine matches lifted them two places up to 10th on 12 points, while Mbale stayed bottom on five.
