Thursday result

Express 0-1 SC Villa

SC Villa continued their steady StarTimes Uganda Premier League form with a hard-fought 1-0 win over city rivals Express at Nakivubo, thanks to a 15th-minute goal from Frank Ssebuufu that separated the sides on Thursday evening.

The decisive moment came from the training ground. Najib Yiga swung in a precise corner from the right and Ssebuufu rose highest to power home a header, giving Villa the lead against the run of early play.

All smiles as SC Villa secured their eighth win of the campaign.

It was a reward for the record 17-time champions’ organisation and sharp execution, even as Express enjoyed more of the ball.

Express dominated possession for large spells thereafter but struggled to translate that control into meaningful chances.

Their build-up play lacked incision, and Villa’s defence remained disciplined, limiting clear sights of goal.

The hosts pushed with greater urgency after the break, yet still found Villa goalkeeper and back line difficult to breach.

The win was Villa’s eighth in 12 matches, moving them one place up to third on 26 points, level with second-placed KCCA and just one behind leaders Vipers SC, who have played a game fewer.

Express, meanwhile, remained 11th on 12 points from as many matches.

Matchday 12 concludes on Tuesday, January 13, with URA hosting Entebbe UPPC.
