UPL Thursday Results
SC Villa 2–0 Maroons
Kitara 1–1 URA
SC Villa claimed a 2–0 win over Maroons at the FUFA Stadium Kadiba on Thursday evening to move up a tightly contested StarTimes Uganda Premier League table.
The record 17-time champions climbed to 34 points, four behind leaders Vipers and up to fourth position.
Frank Ssebuufu gave Villa an early lead in the second minute, reacting quickest to toe-poke home after Geoffrey Gagganga’s initial effort had been saved.
Maroons enjoyed spells of possession for much of the contest but struggled to create clear-cut chances against the Villa backline.
Substitutes Reagan Mpande and Andrew Otim combined late on to seal the victory, Otim heading in his first goal of the campaign to secure maximum points and end Villa’s three-game wait for a win.
Maroons remain ninth on 18 points after 17 matches.
Earlier at Butema Ground in Hoima, Kitara were held to a 1–1 draw by URA, missing the chance to move top of the standings.
George Ssenkaaba headed the hosts in front in the 13th minute from an Edward Namaasa delivery.
URA responded in the second half through Norman Namanya, whose equaliser ended the Tax Collectors’ nine-game wait for a goal.
Kitara move to 36 points, two behind leaders Vipers, while URA sit 13th on 15 points, three above the relegation zone.
