SC Villa creative gem Jonah Patrick Kakande was the star boy at the glamorous Pilsner StarTimes Uganda Premier League Awards gala held at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel in Kampala on Saturday.  

Kakande swept accolades in the categories he was named in, including the big one – Player of the Season or the season’s Most Valuable Player.

The youngster, 21, added three more honours to that; being named the Players Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season, as well as making the league’s Team of the Season.

Kakande was instrumental in leading the national record champions, SC Villa, to their first league title in 20 years.

The forward played 26 games, scoring nine goals and assisting on four occasions. He also bagged five Man of the Match accolades along the way.

Kakande beat teammate Ronald Ssekiganda, KCCA striker Muhammad Shaban, Denis Omedi of Kitara and BUL defender Ronald Otti to the MVP award.

The winner in this category had contributions from online voting, which accounted for 40%, with the other percentage decided by a technical panel.

SC Villa’s Dusan Stojanovic beat Kitara’s Brian Ssenyondo and Abdallah Mubiru of KCCA to the Coach of the Season award after helping the Jogoos end their two-decade pain with the side’s 17th league title.

Kitara striker, Omedi, won the Coaches Player of the Season award, while Shaban’s 17 goals earned the KCCA forward the top scorer accolade.

Villa’s Ssekiganda and BUL’s Otti clinched the midfielder and defender of the season respectively, while Kitara goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima’s impeccable campaign between the sticks earned him the Goalkeeper of the Season gloves.

The glamorous event at Sheraton, emceed by Gystin Angarukiremu of the Nation Media Group, was also attended by Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put and his assistant Sam Ssimbwa.
