Second Preliminary second leg result

Power Dynamos 1-1 Vipers SC

The Zambians advance to the group stage 3-2 on aggregate

Vipers SC’s CAF Champions League journey ended on Friday evening following a 1-1 draw with Power Dynamos at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The result saw the Zambian champions progress 3-2 on aggregate after their 2-1 victory in Kitende last week.

In a contest that demanded both resilience and precision, Vipers looked determined to overturn the deficit.

But midway through the second half, Power Dynamos’ danger man Moses Shumah — who had scored in the first leg — struck again in the 68th minute to hand the hosts the lead and firm control of the tie.

Coach Jacky Ivan Minnaert’s charges, however, refused to fade quietly. Substitute Karim Watambala restored parity in the 79th minute, giving the Ugandan side a glimmer of hope.

Despite late pressure and attacking changes, the Venoms couldn’t find the second goal needed to force a penalty shootout.

Vipers exit the continent’s premier club tournament at the second preliminary round, while Power Dynamos advance to the group stage.

The Venoms will now turn focus to domestic engagements as they seek to rebuild from a campaign that mixed promise with missed chances.
