KCCA 0-2 Vipers SC

Vipers SC saw off KCCA 2-0 at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Sunday to open up a three-point lead at the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table.

The Venoms win coincided with second-placed NEC dropping points at Police in Kavumba as they were held to a one-all draw.

Yunus Sentamu opened the scoring for Vipers 28 minutes before KCCA old boy, Allan Okello,  stuck the sword deeper into his former employers with the second two minutes later.

This was Vipers 12th win in 17 matches, the most by any team. It moved the Venoms to 40 points, three more than NEC, which conceded late to draw with Police.

At Lugogo, Sentamu beat the KCCA backline when he cut in from the left before curling in a delicious ball just inside goalkeeper Mutwalibi Mugolofa’s left-hand post for Vipers opener just before the half hour.

Okello doubled Vipers advantage just moments later, punishing his former team with an assured finish past the on-rushing Mugolofa after Filbert Obenchan’s error.

The defeat was KCCA’s fifth in 17 matches, leaving them in sixth place and a massive 16 points behind leaders Vipers.

It was especially damaging for KCCA because it came in the space of just four days the Lugogo side having also lost 1-0 to NEC at the same ground on Thursday.

Elsewhere in Njeru, Hillary Onek scored a first half goal before Nicholas Mwere and Abdul Karim Ndugwa added two after half time as BUL cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over bottom side, Mbale Heroes.

BUL’s sixth win in 17 matches, having lost only three, moved them three places up to fourth on 26 points, while Heroes remained rooted at the basement of the 16-team table with just nine points.

In Kavumba, Cromwell Rwothomio put NEC ahead on the stroke of half time but Emmanuel Mugume rescued a point for Police in injury time.

This saw NEC fluff the opportunity to keep pace with Vipers, but will now settle for a point, which leaves them three behind the Venoms, who have 40. Police are two places above relegation with 19 points.

In Lugazi, Abdul Kalanzi’s 54th minute strike was enough for the hosts to run away 1-0 winners over Wakiso Giants.

Lugazi’s only fourth win in 17 games moved them four places up to 10th on 20 points, while Wakiso remained third from bottom on 13.
