Moses Waiswa scored the lone goal as Vipers SC edged Maroons 1-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Monday, to finish the first round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League atop the table.

Vipers winner came in the 18th minute when Allan Okello set up Waiswa, who whipped the ball past Maroons goalkeeper Simon Tamale – the eventual Man of the Match.

Earlier on Monday, Express beat UPDF 2-0 in Bombo while Soltilo Bright Stars and Lugazi played out a one-all draw in Kavumba.

Second half goals from Conrad Ssenjogera and Sam Ssenyonjo, the latter’s coming from the spot kick, were enough to ensure Express will finish the first round in the fourth place at the very least.

The Red Eagles currently lie third on the table on 25 points, just one ahead of KCCA, who could dislodge Express with victory over Mbarara on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Alex Mandera’s 63rd minute goal cancelled out Nelson Mandela’s 41st minute strike as Soltilo Bright Stars and Lugazi played out a 1-1 draw.

Matchday 15 concludes on Tuesday with five games lined up before the league takes a break to allow CHAN 2024 finals tournament preparations.

CHAN 2024 will take place from February 1 to 28 and will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
