Defending champions Vipers SC returned to the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table on Tuesday night, responding emphatically to early pressure from Kitara with a commanding 3-0 victory over Lugazi at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Kitara had briefly climbed to the summit after a 2-0 home win against Entebbe UPPC at Butema Ground in Hoima.
Gaddafi Wahab’s first-half header, assisted by Patrick Kaddu, gave the hosts the lead before Kabon Living marked his mid-season return with a late header off Edson Agondeze’s cross to seal the points.
The result lifted Kitara to 39 points from 18 matches – one ahead of Vipers at the time.
But the champions ensured that stay at the top was short-lived. Goals from Rogers Ochaki Torach (19’), Usama Arafat Kizza (30’) and man of the match Chukwuma Odili (45+3’) handed Vipers a comfortable cushion before the break.
Despite losing Tadeo Lwanga to injury early on, the Venoms maintained control throughout to restore their control at the summit on 41.
Elsewhere, Ibrahim Orit struck twice after the interval as BUL secured a 2-0 away victory over Police at Kira Road.
Orit opened the scoring on the hour mark with a composed finish before sealing the win late on the counter. BUL climbed to eighth on 23 points, while Police remained sixth on 32.
At Lugogo, Ronald Innocent Media’s 80th-minute effort earned NEC a narrow 1-0 win over UPDF.
