Vipers SC Nigerian midfielder Abubaker Lawal has passed on, the club has confirmed.
Lawal joined the Venoms from Rwanda’s AS Kigali in July 2022 and won the league and Uganda Cup in the 2022/23 season.
Despite reports of an accident, the cause of his death remains a mystery with the club confirming a postmortem will be conducted.

We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved player, Abubakar Lawal, who left us this morning.
He’s body has been transferred to a medical facility for postmortem examination.
Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lawal’s family, club fans, friends and loved ones during this difficult time. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” Vipers posted on its social media pages.
