The defending champions failed to capitalise on a chance to go top as they were held by bottom-placed Calvary in Yumbe.

Tuesday result

Calvary 0-0 Vipers SC

Vipers SC were left to rue their chance to go top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by bottom-placed Calvary at Midigo P/S Play Ground  in Yumbe on Tuesday evening.

The stalemate leaves the defending champions on 18 points from eight matches – two behind leaders KCCA, who have played one game more.

Missing key players Allan Okello, Hillary Mukundane and Rogers Toorach due to national team duty, the Venoms were still expected to overcome a Calvary side that had collected just one point all season.

Milton Karisa squandered Vipers’ best first-half opening after being picked out by Isaac Ogwang, while substitute Yunus Sentamu came closest after the break, crashing a free-kick off the crossbar.

The champions have now dropped points in back-to-back league matches following last Friday’s 1–1 draw with NEC.

League action resumes on Wednesday as Lugazi host Police, while Buhimba welcome UPDF.
