Vipers must beat Zambia’s Power Dynamos in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the Caf Champions League to stand a chance of qualifying for the lucrative group stages.
The premier league champions eliminated African Stars of Namibia 2-0 on aggregate in the previous round while the Zambians overcame ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast on penalties following a 1-1 draw over two legs.
In what is expected a supportive environment with tickets sold out, the Ugandan flag bearers will rely on Milton Karisa, Yunus Sentamu, Hilary Mukundane, Karim Watambala, Tadeo Lwanga, star boy Allan Okello among others for inspiration.
This will be the first meeting between Power Dynamos and a Ugandan club since 1998 when they faced KCCA in an interclub competition.
However, despite winning the Caf Cup winners Cup in 1991, the Kitwe based side have never played in the group stages of the interclub competitions since reverting to the new format in the early 2000s yet Vipers did two seasons ago at the expense of TP Mazembe.
