Vipers SC 1-1 Maroons
Defending champions Vipers SC had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw played at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Sunday.
Dickson Niwamanya put visitors Maroons ahead in the 26th minute, finishing from close range after a goalmouth scramble.
Vipers pressed for an equaliser with Maroons goalkeeper Derrick Ochan making several interventions to keep the StarTimes Uganda Premier League reigning champions off the scoreline.
The hosts also wasted opportunities through Gusto Mulongo and Abdul-Karim Watambala as the visitors defended resolutely.
Vipers introduced forward Cesar Lobi Manzoki early in the second half in search of a breakthrough, and the change paid off in the 66th minute.
Manzoki’s touch set up defender Kevin Dasylva Bady, who volleyed home from inside the penalty area to restore parity.
The hosts continued to push for a winner, but Maroons held on to secure a valuable point away from home.
The result kept Vipers and Maroons in seventh and eighth places respectively on seven points apiece.
