Vipers SC 2-0 URA

Allan Okello and Enock Luyima were on target as Vipers SC kicked off the StarTimes Uganda Premier League second round with a 2-0 victory over URA at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Tuesday.

The Venoms went ahead on 60 minutes after substitute Kenneth Kimera was brought down in the penalty box for Okello to score from the spot.

Luyima ensured of all three points with a 25-yard screamer of a goal with 15 minutes left to play for Vipers to continue from where they stopped in the first round. 

Vipers won three matches in a row to end the first round on a high.

 The Venoms 11th win in 16 matches keeps them on top of the 16-team table, moving them to 37 points, four ahead of NEC, who play KCCA on Thursday.

URA, who have now lost six in 16, are fifth on on 24 points, three ahead of eighth-placed SC Villa, who could only draw 1-1 at Wakiso Giants in the earlier game. 

Aslam Semakula gave Villa a 23rd minute lead at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium only for hosts Wakiso to rescue a point on the hour, thanks to Huson Mbalire’s goal.

Villa’s sixth draw in 16 matches keeps the defending champions far off the title talk as they lie eighth and 16 points behind the leaders, Vipers.

Wakiso, who have won only twice in 16 games, remain firmly rooted in the relegation skirmish, lying third from bottom on 13 points.

The league continues on Wednesday with three matches lined up.
