Kitara 1-2 NEC
There were wins for six-time champions Vipers SC, UPDF and NEC on Thursday as Matchday Two of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League kicked off across different stadiums in the country.
Milton Karisa grabbed a brace for the Venoms and Asiwome Fumador scored the other goal as Vipers ran away 3-0 winners over Express at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
The Vipers forward, Karisa, scored his goals in the 21st and 75th minutes before Fumador completed the thrashing six minutes from full time.
In doing so, Vipers picked their first win of the season after opening with a 3-1 defeat to NEC last week. They go sixth on three points.
But the day belonged to new table leaders, NEC, who travelled to Hoima and beat favourites and home side, Kitara, 2-1 to ascend to the summit.
Enock Ssebagala and Gadafi Wahab scored NEC’s beauties with Kitara’s consolation – a penalty – netted by Kabon Living.
Ssebagala put the visitors ahead with a 30-yard scorcher on 40 minutes before Kabon levelled from the penalty spot nine minutes after the hour.
But a moment of magic from Wahab 11 minutes from full time handed the visitors all three points.
A good run and cross by scorer Ssebagala ended on Wahab’s chest, the latter volleying it home for a spectacular winner on 79 minutes.
NEC moved top of the table with maximum points from two matches, while Kitara are third on as many points.
Elsewhere, hosts UPDF won their first match to go second on four points after beating newcomers Lugazi 1-0. Andrew Samson Kigozi scored the winner in the 76th minute.
Lugazi, who have now lost both their two opening matches, are bottom of the log.
