SC Villa is second on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on goal difference after a hard-fought 1–1 draw with defending champions Vipers SC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday evening.

The result ended the Venoms’ perfect start to the season, while Villa extended their unbeaten run to six matches.
The much-anticipated clash of the titans delivered tension more than chances. Villa struck first in the 67th minute through second half substitute Frank Ssebuufu, who made the most of Kato Ssemayange’s pass.

Vipers responded swiftly, with Usama Arafat finishing off Allan Okello’s craft five minutes later after sustained pressure.

The contest was punctuated by a flurry of cards, including an unusual dismissal for Villa’s Sula Matovu, who received two bookings off the pitch – first during a heated stoppage-time altercation at the end of the first half, and later in the 89th minute.
The draw saw Villa rise to 17 points after eight matches, KCCA ahead on Head to Head, while Vipers moved up two places to fourth on 13 points, their first dropped points of the campaign.

Earlier at the Prisons Grounds in Luzira, Maroons and NEC also played out a 1–1 draw.

Substitute Ivan Asaba gave Maroons the lead in the 74th minute off a Mujahid Ogama assist but NEC responded just two minutes later, with Marvin Kavuma finishing calmly from Dhata Joseph Stephen Lujang’s delivery.
The result kept NEC in ninth place on 10 points, with Maroons a spot below on nine, both maintaining their mid-table footing after match day eight. Matchday Nine starts on December 2.
