Overview:
Vipers SC dropped points for the third straight match but remain firmly in control of the title race, while Kitara were officially eliminated from the championship talk after defeat to Express on Tuesday.
Vipers SC’s 0-0 draw away to Police in Kamwokya slightly reopened the StarTimes Uganda Premier League title race, but only mathematically.
The defending champions moved to 61 points with two matches left and can still be crowned champions by winning just one of their remaining fixtures.
Even if KCCA win all their remaining matches to finish level on points – assuming Vipers falter in one of theirs, the Venoms hold the advantage on both head-to-head record and goal difference.
Still, KCCA have been handed a small opening. Victory away to UPDF on Wednesday would reduce the gap to three points and at least keep the pressure on heading into the final rounds.
Tuesday, however, completely ended Kitara’s title hopes. The Royals lost 3-2 to Express at Nakivubo to remain on 54 points with only two games left. Their maximum possible tally is now 60, one short of Vipers’ current total.
That leaves the title race down to Vipers and KCCA, though the champions remain overwhelming favourites to retain the crown.
At the bottom, Calvary continued their resilience with a 1-1 draw against URA to keep their slim survival hopes alive.
Elsewhere, Maroons drew 0-0 with Entebbe UPPC while BUL and Lugazi also shared points in another goalless stalemate.
