Ten goals were scored in four StarTimes Uganda Premier League matches played on Friday as Matchday Five neared completion.

There were wins for NEC and BUL, who were registering their first three points of the season, while Mbarara City and Kitara shared spoils and SC Villa surrendered a two-goal lead to draw with Soltilo Bright Stars.

At the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, NEC came from behind to beat Maroons 2-1 and assume table leadership on 12 points.

That is two more than KCCA, who complete Matchday Five on Saturday with a home game against UPDF.

Maroons struck the first blow when Jacob Okao put the ball into his own net in the 49th minute.

But Paul Mucureezi drew the sides level from a penalty spot on 58 minutes before Muzamiru Mutyaba made sure of all three points with NEC’s winner 17 minutes from full time.

The day’s other winners were BUL, who – by beating URA 1-0 at Nakivubo – were surprisingly winning only their first match in five attempts.

Their winner was resoundingly thumped in from outside the 18 yard-box by Pascal Ngobi after just three minutes following a poor URA clearance from a free kick.

BUL’s only win moved them two places out of relegation to 12th on five points, while URA remain fifth on seven points.

At Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, SC Villa started like a house on fire, going ahead on 15 minutes when Jonah Patrick Kakande converted from a penalty spot after Bright Stars’ Jonathan Gift Odong handled in the forbidden area.

It was soon 2-0 to Villa midway the first half after Charles Lwanga headed home a rebound following Ronald Ssekiganda’s effort hitting the woodwork and bouncing back into play.

But Bright Stars turned the tide after the half time break, Paskali Oketcho’s 61st minute free kick reducing the deficit.

With three minutes left to play, Bright Stars completed the comeback when Khassim Mustapha’s long range strike deflected in for 2-2.

Villa’s first draw of the campaign has them in seventh place on as many points, while Bright Stars remain in the bottom two on three.

Elsewhere, two late goals at Kakyeka Stadium saw hosts Mbarara City and Kitara share spoils, with the visitors snatching a point when Patrick Kaddu scored in the 90th minute to cancel out Ronald Edwok’s opener seven minutes earlier.

Mbarara City are 10th on six points while Kitara, whose only win remains their 3-0 opening victory over Lugazi, are a place above relegation on four points.
