Saturday result
UPDF 1-0 SC Villa
Ten-man UPDF displayed resilience of the highest order, beating title challengers SC Villa 1-0 to defiantly jump out of relegation on Saturday.
Ronald Owiny’s 56th minute goal carried the day when 10 souls, spurred on by coach Steven Bogere, stood tallest after Sulaiman Majanjalo was showed marching orders for a second bookable offence.
Victory lifted UPDF two places out of relegation to 29 points with two matches to go.
The result was more satisfying for Bogere’s boys especially because it came just days after the soldiers were deducted three points following fielding of a suspended player in a game against Bul.
It was another poor day at office for Villa, whose defeat allowed Vipers all the authority to go on and claim their third title in eight years.
Vipers now lead the table on 58 points, five more than Villa.
The two are all left with just three matches apiece to wrap up the campaign, while KCCA – third on 51 points, have four to go.
