10-man UPDF subject Express to successive defeat

StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) defending champions, Express, suffered a second successive defeat, this time a 1-0 loss to UPDF at Bombo Barracks on Saturday.

Musa Mudde scored a second half penalty as the army men claimed their first victory of the season following a 1-1 draw away to Onduparaka last week.

But the hosts had to play for over an hour with a man fewer after Ivan Ahimbisibwe was sent off for a dangerous foul on Express goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.

The Red Eagles, Express, were without their suspended coach Wasswa Bbosa and entered this game on the back of a 2-0 home defeat to league newcomers Arua Hill on the opening day of the season.

A reaction is all the Red Army faithful wanted, but this was far from the response they got.

And even when they went a man down after Ahimbisibwe’s dismissal, UPDF coach Brian Ssenyondo’s side did not panic.

The went in front in the 56th minute when veteran Mudde converted from the spot after Nicholas Kasozi handled in the area.

Express pushed for the to equaliser but the army men held on for their first win of the season to move to four points. They now lie third on the table.

UPDF’s next game is at home against Mbarara City, who fell to Tooro United 1-0 at Buhinga Stadium, on Tuesday while Express visit Bul in Jinja on the same day.
