Matchday Six of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League delivered 27 goals across the 10 fixtures listed, with away sides making their mark and several teams sending out strong statements.
SC Villa and NEC emerged as the biggest beneficiaries in the title race, while defending champions Vipers supplied the round’s most emphatic scoreline in their rescheduled fixture.
At the other end, Mbarara City finally broke their winless start, but Kataka and Kigezi Homeboyz remain without a victory.
Villa lead the way
SC Villa were the biggest winners of the round, moving to the top of the table after dismantling Police 6-1 at the Kira Road Police Arena.
The Jogoos struck three times in the first half before adding three more after the break, with Frank Ssebuufu scoring twice. John Asiimwe, Patrick Kakande, Ibrahim Kasinde and teenage forward Jonathan Sausa also scored, while Bedia Ikamba netted Police’s consolation.
The result took Villa to 14 points, level with NEC but ahead on goal difference.
NEC kept pace with a 2-0 victory over Kigezi Homeboyz, with Allan Mugalu and debutant Marvin Oshaba finding the net.
Vipers deliver a statement
Reigning champions Vipers produced Thursday’s most emphatic result, thrashing Kataka 5-0 in their rescheduled Matchday Three fixture.
Usama Arafat Kizza scored a hat-trick, striking in the 16th and 51st minutes before converting a penalty in the 55th.
Farouk Miya added the fourth in the 76th minute, while Milton Karisa completed the rout in the second minute of stoppage time.
Arafat’s performance earned him the Man of the Match award. The victory lifted Vipers to fifth on 10 points from five matches, following their earlier 1-1 draw with Maroons.
Second from bottom with just two points, Kataka remain without a win after six league matches.
UPDF strike early
UPDF claimed an important 2-1 away victory over Express, with Derrick Taremwa scoring twice inside the opening seven minutes.
His goals in the third and seventh minutes gave the visitors a commanding start, while Henry Wamala pulled one back for Express in the 75th minute.
The result took UPDF to eight points from five matches. Express remained on five points after six games, with only one win to show for their efforts.
Mbarara finally break through
Mbarara City recorded their first victory of the season by edging Blacks Power 2-1 on Sunday.
Erick Tumwine and Rogers Mugisha scored for the Ankole Lions, while Innocent Maduka found the net for Blacks Power.
The win offered Mbarara a timely boost after a difficult start. Blacks Power, by contrast, suffered a third defeat in six matches and remained on nine points.
Points dropped
BUL’s perfect start was checked by a goalless draw away to Lugazi, leaving them third on 13 points with a game in hand on the top two.
URA and Entebbe UPPC also shared a goalless draw on Thursday, with the point doing little to improve URA’s position in the lower reaches of the table.
KCCA, meanwhile, continued their recovery with a 2-0 win over Ntugasaze, courtesy of Herbert Achai and Emmanuel Anyama.
The Kasasiro Boys moved to 10 points after recording a third consecutive victory. Action resumes on Sunday with BUL travelling to UPDF.
