For the second year running, excelling individuals and teams from the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) will be awarded.This follows yet another successful campaign that saw KCCA retain the league title to move to within of record league winners SC Villa who have 16 championships.

On Wednesday July 5, the secretariat revealed the categories for the 2016-17 awards ahead of the much anticipated launch on

Captains and coaches went through a process of selecting nominees for the forth coming UPL Awards due on on a yet to be communicated date.

Over 17 categories of people will be rewarded at a venue and on a date to be communicated.

Speaking on the awards, league CEO Bernard Bainamani said the essence of the awards is to recognize excellence, create competition and promote the league brand among others.

Awards are meant to recognize excelling individuals but also create competition among players and  promote the league as a brand.

The CEO also revealed that a number of topflight coaches and captains among others were involved in the process of selecting nominees of various categories to be revealed at the launch next week.

Last season’s Most Valuable Player gong went to then KCCA’s Joseph Ochaya who quit the club early this year for a stint with Zambia’s Lusaka Dynamos.
