Brazilian-Spaniard Roberto Luiz Bianchi Pellister, also known as Beto, is the new head coach of StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions, Vipers SC.

The 56-year-old was unveiled at the club home, St Mary’s Stadium-Kitende, on Tuesday after penning a two-year contract.

He replaces fellow Brazilian Roberto Oliveira aka Robertinho, who joined Tanzanian giants Simba SC two weeks ago.

Beto will be deputised by fellow countryman Roberto Martinez and two Ugandan coaches.

Richard Wasswa is the second assistant coach and former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Ibrahim Mugisha remains the goalkeepers’ tutor.

Holder of a UEFA A Pro licence, Beto is tasked with successfully steering the Venoms through the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League group stage, as well as defend the national title.

Beto boasts of a rich history having coached at different clubs in Spain and Africa.

He has coached at Ciudad de Murcia B between 2004-2007, Atlético Ciudad (2007-2009), Zamora from 2009 to 2010, Lorca Deportiva (2011) and Batavia Union (2012-2013).

Others outside Africa include Pro Duta (2013–2014), RRFC (2014–2015), Kazma (2020-21) and GD Interclube in 2021.

In Africa, Beto has worked with giants Petro du Luanda of Angola from 2016-2019 and the Angolan national team – The Palancas Negras in 2017.
