Bright Stars shock KCCA, Giants held

Selected Tuesday results

Wakiso Giants 1-1 Arua Hill

Soltilo Bright Stars 1-0 KCCA

StarTimes Uganda Premier League leaders KCCA ended their first round on a losing note as they suffered a shock 1-0 defeat away to Soltilo Bright Stars on Tuesday.

A 66th minute strike at Kavumba Recreation Ground-Wakiso from Soltilo Bright Stars striker Emmanuel Loki was enough to inflict a third defeat of the season on the 13-time champions.

Coach Morley Byekwaso’s KCCA will, however, still end the first round of matches top of the table on 29 points from 14 matches despite the defeat.

Bright Stars’ fifth win in 14 matches means coach Asaph Mwebaze’s side are guaranteed an eighth first round place on 20 points.

The home side, Bright Stars, had been probing, asking the right questions through the game.

Their reward finally came after the hour when striker Nelson Sentuka threaded a pass into Loki’s path, the latter making no mistake as he put it beyond the reach of KCCA stand-in goalkeeper Derrick Ochan.

KCCA had a couple of scoring opportunities of their own but but Tshisungu Kankonde, Muhammad Shaban and Senoga were not as sharp on the day.

Elsewhere, there was drama at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium as Wakiso Giants surrendered a one-goal lead late on to draw 1-1 with Arua Hill.

A deflected Hassan Senyonjo goal gave the home team a 2oth minute lead. But Junior Andama struck a penalty in added time after referee Ali Sabila adjudged Titus Sematimba to have handled in the box to punish Wakiso’s wasteful finishing.

Wakiso Giants moved one place up to third on 25 points but that could change if BUL win their game away to Maroons on Wednesday. Arua Hill end their first round sixth on 23 points.
