Eight players, half from Bright Stars and the other URA, will miss their clubs next Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) matches on Tuesday unless their teams pay up fines slapped by the competition’s secretariat.

The two clubs have each been fined Shs50,000 payable before their next league games or the eight booked players will not feature.

The players were booked in matches involving URA and JMC Hippos on April 12 at Mehta Stadium-Lugazi, and Bright Stars versus Vipers SC, played on the same day, at CS-Matugga.

Players in question include Shafic Kagimu, Nicholas Kagaba, Allan Munaaba, and Elukhana Nkugwa of URA, and Sulaiman Sebbunza, Mathias Waisswa, Anthony Bongole and Akram Kakembo from Bright Stars.

The UPL secretariat invoked Article 20(5) of the Fufa Competitions Rules that states that, “If a club/team accumulates four (4) or more cautions and /or send offs served within a single match, it shall pay a fine of 50 UAs to the TOC.”

The article further says that “In event that the fine is not paid, such players shall be ineligible to play in subsequent matches irrespective of the number of cautions so far earned.”

Communication from stated: “The Secretariat has invoked the above Article and fined URA FC 50 UAs (Shs50.000), which should be paid to UPL Secretariat before the said players are fielded for any AUPL match effective Tuesday 19th April 2016.”

URA travel to Jinja to face Bul on Tuesday while Bright Stars are at home to Sadolin Paints on the same day.
