BUL joined leaders NEC, Vipers and Kitara at the creme top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League standings after edging KCCA 1-0 at a game played at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Saturday.
Nicholas Mwere’s 77th minute goal proved the winner of the tightly contested match as BUL put their title talk credentials into action.
BUL coach Abbey Kikomeko’s boys were coming off another 1-0 victory away to Soltilo Bright Stars last week.
On their part, coach Sergio Traguil and KCCA had hoped to quickly put their Caf Confederation Cup 3-1 first leg defeat to Libya’s Abe Salem behind them with a positive result here but BUL had other ideas.
BUL now lie fourth on six points, joining NEC, Vipers and Kitara as the teams to have won all two of their opening matches.
They secured their win here 13 minutes from full time when forgotten boy, Joel Madondo, played it on for Mwere to score the all-important goal.
Defender Walter Ochola’s overall impressive display earned the BUL player the Pilsner Man of the Match award.
Blanks at Express
At Wankulukuku, Express had hoped to kick-start their season with victory but were held to a goalless draw by visiting Mbarara City, who themselves were looking for a response after their opening day 1-0 defeat to NEC.
That Express goalkeeper Abdul Kimera got the Pilsner Man of the Match accolade should tell you part of the story.
At Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, home side Wakiso Giants recovered from their opening day 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Maroons to rescue a point off Bright Stars in the 1-1 draw.
Denis Omony Kaka had given the visitors a 35th minute lead off a Shafik Kakande assist but Pilsner Man of the Match Rahmat Senfuka struck 13 minutes from full time to earn the hosts a much needed point.
Match Day Two continues on Sunday with red-hot Maroons welcoming SC Villa, who will be desperate to bounce back from their opening day 2-1 defeat to newcomers Kitara.
