Caf Champions League

Preliminary round

KCCA 1-0 CNaPS Sport (Agg 2-2, KCCA advance on away goals rule)

KCCA edged Madagascar record champions CNaPS Sport 1-0 in the return leg of the Caf Champions League preliminary round at Lugogo on Wednesday to advance to the next stage.

Paul Mucureezi headed home after the hour for the Ugandan champions to progress on away goals rule after a 2-2 aggregate.

The winger was well-positioned to direct his header past goalkeeper Andonianina Fanomezantsoa Andrimalala after a well-delivered Mustapha Kizza corner on 64 minutes.

Before that goal it had been an end to end spectacle with both sides going at each other.

But Mike Mutebi’s men held on for a priceless victory to book a date with Ethiopia’s St George, who boast of Ugandan custodian Robert Odongkara.

The first leg in Antananarivo had ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts, where Ratolojanahary Fenosoa’s second half penalty cancelled Derrick Nsibambi’s strike.

Francis Rafaralahy scored the winner in added time but Nsibambi’s goal was enough to give KCCA the much needed push ahead of the return leg.

St George will host the first leg of the first round away in Addis Ababa between 5th and 6th May 2018.
