As Ugandan Champions League representatives, KCCA, wait for the outcome of Wednesday’s draws for the group stage to be held in Cairo, Egypt, the Lugogo outfit are highly optimistic of making the quarterfinals of the competition.

KCCA edged Ethiopian champions St George 1-0 on aggregate to qualify for the group stage for the first time last Saturday, thanks to Muhammad Shaban’s lone strike at StarTimes Stadium.

“We are among the big boys and we have the right to rub shoulders with them,” Mike Mutebi told upl.co.ug.

“We have the players and I’m sure my team is ready for the group stage because we have a young team with a lot of potential and understanding of the game.

“We have learned to manage the game at this level after eliminating the experienced team (St George) and the target now is getting to the quarterfinals. We are not going to the group stages as passengers but to compete,” Mutebi vowed.

Last year, KCCA were ejected from the Champions League in the first round by Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa but went on to make the group stages of the second tier Confederation Cup.
