Caf Confederation Cup, first leg
KCCA vs Al-Masry (Egypt), 4pm
Phillip Omondi Stadium
KCCA will have a clearer idea by the end of Saturday whether they will still have a great chance to play in a continental group stage.
The Ugandan champions welcome Egypt side, Al-Masry in the first leg of the Caf Confederation Cup play-off at Phillip Omondi Stadium in Kampala knowing they must win to give themselves a good chance ahead of the return leg next week.
KCCA manager Mike Mutebi will draw encouragement from the fact that his side have not lost a game at Phillip Omondi Stadium, scoring in all 14 home games in all competitions.
Mutebi, however, comes into this fixture without suspended Habib Kavuma and injured Timothy Awany, but is confident Paul Musamali and Mustapha Kizza can fill the void.
“I believe in the ability of my players at this level,” said Mutebi, “We have a good home record and we are a scoring side,” he added.
Al Masry coach Hassan Hossam is intent on picking maximum points in Kampala, saying “We want to play good attacking football.”
But he will be wary of Geoffrey Sserunkuma, the KCCA striker who scored in every of the four Champions League matches the hosts have played.
KCCA’s Isaac Kirabira, Paul Mucureezi, Muzamir Mutyaba and youngster Allan Okello will confront Al Masry’s Abdelaal El-Sayed, Farid Shawki, Ahmed Shoukry and Mohamed El Shami in the battle to control the middle of the park.
