FIRST ROUND, First leg
Vipers 1-0 Platinum Stars
RETURN LEG, SATURDAY, MARCH 18
Platinum Stars vs Vipers
Vipers travel to South Africa to face Platinum Stars in the return leg of the Caf Confederation Cup this Saturday knowing that they only have to avoid defeat and they will be in the next stage of the competition.
The Uganda Cup winners edged the Premier Soccer League (PSL) side 1-0 in the first leg on Saturday at the newly-opened St Mary’s Stadium thanks to Milton Karisa’s goal.
It was also Jorge Da Costa’s first game in charge as Vipers coach, as well as the club’s first at their new stadium.
Going into the return leg in South Africa, Vipers will be hoping for déjà vu. The two-time domestic league winners qualified for this stage on away goals rule following the home and away draw against Volcan Di Moroni.
So they will have been satisfied with the one-nil result albeit a narrow one. “I told you I’m here to win,” boasted Vipers coach Da Costa.
“I want to win. I am happy with the performance. I have the best team in the world. What they have done is play beautiful football.
“We could have won one, two and three. One team wanted to win the other didn’t want to lose.”
