Busoga United 2-0 Express

Vipers SC 1-0 Kyetume

Bright Stars 1-0 Bul

Maroons 1-2 Proline

Paul Mucureezi made a dream debut for Vipers as the new acquisition from Mbarara City grabbed the only goal of the match in the Venoms’ 1-0 victory over visiting Kyetume at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday.

Mucureezi expertly controlled Tito Okello’s cross and turned it in for his first of the many more to come – he would hope – on eight minutes.

“What a debut!” he posted on his Facebook page, “Thanks so much to all those that supported and the glory goes back to the Almighty.”

The victory restored Vipers four-point lead on second-placed KCCA, who had reduced it to one with their Wednesday win over Mbarara.

Vipers, the three-time champions, now lead the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) standings on 39 points with 16 matches played.

Kyetume’s 10th defeat in 16 matches keeps them 12 on the same points as matches played.

In Jinja, coach George Ssimwogerere’s Express fell into a Busoga United ambush as the Red Eagles succumbed to a 2-0 defeat, thanks to Ivan Wani and Boban Ziruntusa strikes.

Veteran striker Hamis Kiiza helped himself to a brace in Luzira as Proline beat hosts Maroons 2-1 to give themselves a survival lifeline. Steven Mukwala scored Maroons consolation.

Proline, however, remain at the bottom on 12 points, while Maroons are 10th on 19.

Bright Stars were 1-0 winners at home to Bul, thanks to Alfred Onek’s goal, to move to 13 points, despite staying third from bottom.
