Tangosport in partnership with FUFA, Baba FM and Bidco Uganda have on Monday launched the inaugural edition of the Eastern G4 tournament in Jinja.
The two day event will be held at Kyabazinga stadium, Bugembe on July 30 and 31.
The tournament will see all the four Uganda Premier league clubs from the lakeside town clash in a round robin format. They include self-proclaimed Eastern giants BUL, Sadolin Paints, Jinja Municipal Hippos and new entrants Kirinya Jinja SS.
Organizers also hinted on a possibility of having a guest team out of Jinja but didn’t reveal whether it will be from Uganda or beyond borders.
“We are discussing with Tanzanian side Azam, Onduparaka, URA or Express to see whether we can have any as the best possible guest team,” Tangosport manager Mr. Joseph Mutaka told the press at the Busoga Kingdom Headquarters in Bugembe.
Format of play
The teams will involve in a round robin format with at least three games per each.
A win carries the normal three points and one point in case of a draw. Each goal scored adds a point for the scoring team.
“This format is to encourage the teams to attack each other and also score goals to give the fans quality entertainment,” Mutaka explained.
The main objective of the tournament is to help the teams gauge their preparation levels ahead of the 2016/17 season that kicks off in about a month’s time
