The Azam Uganda Premier League continued at six venues on Friday and it wasn’t short of goals, shocks and thrills.

The biggest game of the day was played at Mehta Grounds, Lugazi where Express won their first ever game against URA.

The Red Eagle’s hero was Tony Odur, who scored the winner with 11 minutes to time. Ibrahim Kayiwa’s strike had earlier cancelled out Robert Ssentongo’s 57th minute goal and his 13th of the campaign.

Express are now tied with second placed URA on 32 points but the former are a place below thanks to an inferior goal difference.

The Wankulukuku-based Express, and leaders KCCA – on 38, however, have two games in hand over URA.

At Champions Stadium, Mwererwe, The Saints ended Bright Stars seven-match streak without conceding thanks to Isaac Kirabira’s 61st minute goal.

The three points lift Moses Basena’s Saints out of the relegation zone to 13th although they are tied on 19 points with SC Victoria University, who are just a below them. Bright Stars remain eighth on the 16 team table with 29 points.

At Prisons Grounds, Luzira, Maroons edged fellow strugglers Simba SC 1-0 in the only televised game of the day.

Salim Kiyega decided the tie with a 71st minute strike in a game that saw veteran striker Godfrey Wakaza miss a penalty for the army side.

The win; Maroons’ second in the campaign so far, makes no change to their standing on the log as they remain at the base despite moving to 12 points. Simba are a slot above Maroons with three points more.

Elsewhere, two five-goal thrillers were witnessed at Kavumba Recreation Grounds and Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, where JMC Hippos beat Police 3-2, and Soana pummeled SC Victoria University 4-1.

Abdallah Nyanzi, Dan Wagaluka, Patrick Asiku and Musa Esenu scored for Soana in the second half. Bronson Serumira’s earlier goal could only count for a consolation.

At Kavumba, Richard Wandyaka gave JMC a lead after 24 minutes but Ben Ocen levelled matters for the Cops five minutes later before Osman Mutumba put the hosts in the lead for the first time nine minutes to break.

The second half saw Constantine Nalumoso (56) and Paul Emenyu (69) win it for James Odoch’s side, who move to sixth on 30 points, while the 2005 champions drop to seventh with a point less.

In the other game on the day, Lweza’s good run came to a halt as Muzamiru Nasser 19th minute winner gave visiting Sadolin Paints maximum points at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.
