Express unveil 2018/19 squad

Express are set for the new StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) season.

Boosting of new energy brought by fresh chairman Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the Red Eagles seem ready to fly.

Following the launch of the new Equity season ticket on Friday, powered by their bank partners, Express also released their squad for the 2018/19 season due to kick off on September 28.

The squad has three goalkeepers, eight defenders, 10 midfielders and four strikers.

Only eight players from the team that survived relegation narrowly last year have been retained.

They are goalkeeper Tony Kyamera,  defender Julius Ntambi, Shafik Nana Kakeeto, Jalil Zimula, Davis Mayanja, Badiru Nsubuga, Billy Nkata and talismanic striker Michael Birungi.

New signings include former Bright Stars goalkeeper Ronald Mutebi, former Sadolin and URA shot stopper Matthias Muwanga, Hamis Batenga, Charles Lubega, Charles Mutima Musoke, Arthur Kiggundu (formerly at SC Villa Jogoo) and Isaac Mutanga.

Others are Disan Galiwango, Nasir Mbabali, Joel Male, Ibrahim Kayiwa, Badiru Nsubuga, Lawrence Kigonya, Jonny Revita, Billy Nkata, Pius Mbidde, the returning Tony Odur, Rueben Kabuye and Eric Kambale.

Elsewhere, defender Ntambi has been named team captain.

“I urge my players to work hard every day because we are working towards building a team that will compete,” said Express coach Kefa Kisala.

“Everyone at the club has a collective duty of helping the club generate revenue.”

Chairman Kiwanuka promised timely payments of the players’ allowances and bonuses.
