NEC 2-5 Express

Busoga United 2-2 URA

Express won their first match in eight attempts and did it in style as the Red Eagles dispatched NEC 5-2 at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Thursday.

Pilsner Man of the Match, Isaac Wagoina, and Emmanuel Wasswa each grabbed a brace, with Steven Senfuma adding another goal. Cromwell Rwothomio and David Tonny Kiberu scored NEC’s goals.

Express, now under former Vipers SC coach Alex Isabirye, remain eighth on the log on 16 points following only their fourth win of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League season.

NEC are fifth on 20 points after their fourth defeat in 12 matches of their debut top-flight season.

Express had failed to win in seven matches heading into this, and had lost their most recent two to SC Villa and Kitara.

But under the Lugogo floodlights on Thursday night, the Red Eagles turned on the lights but had to recover from a Rwothomio third minute goal first, with Wagoina levelling matters 14 minutes later.

Two quick goals, one from Wasswa and another for Wagoina – a penalty – on 30 and 44 minutes had Express cruising to the half time break 3-1 up.

Senfuma made it 4-1 on 77 minutes as Express ran riot before Wasswa also completed his brace from the penalty spot on 81 minutes.

Kiberu reduced the deficit for the home side, NEC, with a goal three minutes from full time but couldn’t stop the Red Eagles juggernaut on the day.

URA rescue point

Elsewhere, coach David Obua’s URA had to rally from 2-0 down to rescue a point against Busoga United at the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru earlier in the day.

The Tax Collectors, who are still looking for their first away win this season, went behind to a Hassan Ssajabi goal on 12 minutes before Emmanuel Ajo doubled the advantage for Busoga in the 33rd minute.

But URA battled back through Bruno Bunyaga on 67 minutes before Moses Aliro rescued a point for the taxmen with a fine goal eight minutes from full time.
