Startimes Uganda Premier League

Sunday result

KCCA 1-2 Express

Express further complicated KCCA’s poor start to the 2023/24 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season by beating the 13-time champions 2-1 at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Sunday.

Derrick Ngobi and Isaac Wagoina scored the Red Eagles’ goals while Shaban Muhammad’s could only count for a KCCA consolation.

Express’ second win in three matches lifts them into fourth place, level on seven points with Maroons and champions Vipers – all three having played the same number of games.

On their part, this is KCCA’s third straight league defeat – the Lugogo side’s worst start to the league in memorable times. It leaves them win-less and in the bottom three.

The result, which is not helped by KCCA’s early elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup, only piles more pressure on their Portuguese coach Sergio Traguil.

Here, the home side – KCCA – went behind on 22 minutes when Express defender Ngobi headed home Ismail Kawawulo’s corner kick.

But striker Shaban hit back for the hosts, converting a low cross from Usama Arafat on 30 minutes.

However, coach James Odoch’s Express had other ideas as they kept pressing for another goal.

It finally came five minutes from full time, Hussein Ssenoga releasing substitute Eddy Ssebandeke down the left and the latter’s cross brilliantly headed in by Wagoina for a 2-1 away victory.
