Cosafa Under-20 Championship

Semifinal result

Uganda 0-0 Lesotho (Lesotho won 6-5 on penalties)

Uganda’s Under-20 side, the Hippos, bowed out in the semifinals of the Cosafa underage Championship happening currently in Zambia after losing to Lesotho 6-5 on penalties on Thursday.

Coach Mathias Lule’s side dominated proceedings but were guilty of not turning their possession into clear cut chances as the 90 minutes ended in a goalless draw.

Returning from suspension, captain Mohammad Shaban was denied from close-range goalkeeper Monaheng Ramalefane. The impressive Allan Okello also tested Ramalefane from long range.

The match then went to penalties and after both sides scored their first five to take the shoot-out to sudden death, Mujahid Ogama missed for the Hippos, for Ugandans bowed out.

Lesotho will now face South Africa, who beat Egypt 1-0, in Saturday’s final. Uganda will battle Egypt for the third place.
