Former BUL head coach Alex Isabirye is the new Vipers SC boss, the reigning StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions have announced.
Isabirye replaces Beto Bianchi Pellister, who parted ways with Vipers towards the end of last week after just 58 days in charge.
Bianchi left after back to back defeats to Simba of Tanzania in the CAF Champions League.
Isabirye was unveiled at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Sunday morning, just after over 12 hours after helping BUL eliminate SC Villa from the Uganda Cup.
“I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Vipers Sports Club, this fantastic football club,” Isabirye is quoted on the club website.
“I am very excited to be here and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.”
Isabirye will work alongside other coaches; Richard Wasswa, Ibrahim Mugisha and Kato Ibrahim.
He is a previous league champion with URA as the head coach, as well as the Uganda Cup winner with Victoria University and BUL.
He has also managed Kyetume Soana and Busoga United locally, plus Somali outfit Horseed FC.
Isabirye will be tasked to salvage some positives from the Champions League, where the Venoms lie fourth in Group C with a point.
He will also try to defend the Uganda Premier League title, where Vipers sit fourth with 28 points, seven behind leaders KCCA, who have played a game more.
Vipers are also still in contention for the Uganda Cup, where they take on Wakiso Giants on Tuesday at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in the round of 16.
