Express 2-0 Vipers SC
Alex Isabirye led Express to a 2-0 victory over Vipers SC on Saturday as the Red Eagles coach came up against his former employers just months after unceremoniously leaving the Kitende club.
Isma Kawawulo and Isaac Wagoina scored the Red Eagles goals in either half for them to dislodge KCCA from eighth place of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table.
Express have 19 points from 13 matches while Vipers, who have now lost two in two following a 3-2 defeat to leaders BUL in the match preceding this, drop into fourth place on 24.
The Red Eagles came into this fixture at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku in the mood after dispatching NEC 5-2 in a previous outing.
And with Isabirye’s acrimonious departure from Vipers at the end of last season despite winning the Kitende side their only ever league and cup double part of the mix, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
It lived to the billing as the hosts limited the visitors to tame attempts while hurting Vipers, who were handled by Richard Wasswa in the interim following Leo Neiva’s recent sacking, the other end.
Express went ahead on 38 minutes through Kawawulo before Wagoina, running onto a long clearance from his defence, made it 2-0 with 13 minutes left. Action resumes on Tuesday.
