JMC Hippos 3-1 Bright Stars

Ivan Lubaale has put a claim to a starting berth in James Odoch’s side with a superb man-of-the-match performance capped with a stunning second half brace in JMC Hippos 3-1 victory over Bright Stars on Saturday afternoon.

Just like their norm at home, the town lords were impatient with their visitors from the kick-off but John Wandyaka and Rajab failed to smash home three clear-cut opportunities in the early exchanges.

The pressure kept on piling on the visitors that were missing their head coach Fred Kajoba, who is ill.

However, they succumbed to the hosts’ assault at the quarter hour mark after miscommunication from the back line, leading to an own goal by Captain Bernard Muwanga.

In the 35th minute, Farouk Banga brought back hope for the visitors with a well hit shot outside the box from good interplay between Martin Kivumbi and Anthony Bongoole who had earlier had a goal disallowed for offside.

Coach Odoch’s side returned from the break with a different attacking strategy pushing Ivan Lubaale to a more advanced role to support Ajab as Wandyaka dropped deeper.

The change turned magical just after three minutes with Wandyaka setting up Lubaale who dribbled past Lubaale and smashed past Kigonya for the second.

The striker doubled his tally in the 73rd minute with another twin screamer to the top right corner from over 30 yards.

JMC Hippos moves to fifth with 33 points after 22 games while Bright stars remain on 8th on 29 points.
