SC Villa 2-0 Busoga United
Patrick Kakande did not score but his dominant display was enough to earn him the Pilsner Man of the Match accolade as his SC Villa beat Busoga United 2-0 at Wankulukuku on Thursday.
Scorers Umar Lutalo and Ronald Ssekiganda were the beneficiaries of Kakande’s improved midfield performance as the 16-time champions won only their third match in eight.
The win lifted Dusan Stojanovic’s men five places up to sixth on 12 points in eight StarTimes Uganda Premier League matches, while Busoga’s fifth defeat drops them to 11th on 10 marks.
Kakande was a pain in the visitors’ flesh all afternoon until he was replaced by Elvis Ngonde towards the end the encounter.
His trickery invited Busoga United defender Fredrick Ngalo into a challenge inside the forbidden area only four minutes into the match, earning Villa a penalty.
But Lutalo saw his penalty kick saved by goalkeeper Salim Wekiya. Lutalo, however, atoned for his miss on 20 minutes when he powered home from close range after being set up by Kakande. Ssekiganda sealed Villa’s victory with the second of the game in the 75th minute.
