Kakooza hattrick sends Hippos into Afcon U-20 finals

Police striker Derrick Kakooza and Vipers’ Richard Basangwa scored three and one respectively to send Uganda Hippos into the finals of the Total U-20 Afcon in Mauritania.

The Hippos beat Tunisia 4-0 in Nouakchott to set up date with Ghana in the finals.

Basangwa opened the scoring in the fourth minute before he turned provider to Kakooza who doubled the lead in the 36th minute.

The lead was cut with a header from Ben Lamin six minutes to half time as the two teams went into the break with Hippos leading 2-1.

In the 50th minute, Kakooza got his brace with an exquisite header beating an offside trap to finish off a long range pass from Bobosi Byaruhanga.

Kakooza completed his hattrick that takes him to five goals with a centre forward’s finish getting at the end of Ivan Bogere’s through ball.

Victory means Uganda will play at a continental final for the first time since Uganda Cranes in 1978 Afcon.
