Former African Footballer of the Year Nwankwo Kanu was guest as Azam Uganda Premier League giants SC Villa and KCCA face off in the inaugural StarTimes Cup at Nakivubo on Wednesday.
The ex-Arsenal and Ajax star who arrived in the country on Tuesday on invitation of StarTimes Company for which he is as an ambassador could be seen clapping and nodding in approval as the game went on.
Herman Wasswa scored the winner in the 19th minute with an easy tap in from close range making a good connection with a ball from Jackson Nunda who impressed Kanu the most from the lot.
“I am impressed with the talent,” Kanu told a press briefing at half time. “The potential is much visible in the players from the two teams,” he added.
Pressed to reveal who he thinks has caught his eye after 45 minutes, the Olympic Gold Medalists picked KCCA’s shirt 30 – Jackson Nunda.
“Shirt 30 playing for a side in yellow has been exceptional,” he said in reference to Nunda who he later picked as man of the match.
Kanu who also watched the goalless draw between Uganda and Burkina Faso will on Thursday pay a courtesy visit to Mulago Heart Institute and also slum kids around Katanga where he is set to play alongside ghetto kids.
The former Nigerian international is a heart survivor after undergoing a successfully surgery in 1996 and has since recovery established Kanu heart foundation in Nigeria which helps children with heart related problems.
