Express 1-0 BUL

Express put up an impressive performance to end StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) leaders BUL’s unbeaten start to the 2022/23 season on Tuesday.

The Red Eagles marksman, Allan Kayiwa, was the hero again, the striker netting the winner at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku inside 10 minutes.

Express’ third win in six matches lifted them five places up to fourth on 11 points, two behind the leaders and their day’s victims – BUL.

BUL have, however, played one game more than the Red Eagles.

Coach Alex Isabirye’s BUL came into this fixture unbeaten having won four in six games.

But that resilience was broken by an equally determined Express, who broke the deadlock on 10 minutes when in-form Kayiwa rebounded home a poor clearance by BUL defence.

This was Kayiwa’s fourth goal, bringing him level with BUL’s Karim Ndugwa and Richard Wandyaka on the top scoring charts.

Kayiwa has scored four of Express’ five goals. Coach James Odoch’s Express took the game to the visitors from the onset and should have scored more.

Joseph Akandwanaho and Marvin Oshaba are some of those that should have done with more precision in front of goal.

But in the end, it was a big three points for the hosts, who also had Denis Otim – the Pilsner Player of the Match – to thank for a well marshalled defence in face of BUL’s dangerous forwards.
