KCCA back to winning ways

SUPL Friday result

KCCA 1-0 Tooro United

KCCA continue with dismal returns in front of goal in the second round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) but they will be glad that at least they returned to winning ways on Friday.

Teenager Sunday Opio scored the only goal of the match on 16 minutes at Lugogo as manager Mike Mutebi’s men overcame coach Muhammed Kisekka’s side.

Victory, coinciding with Vipers SC losing to SC Villa by the same scoreline, saw KCCA cut the former’s lead at the summit to only four points.

Vipers had opened a seven-point lead following their mid-week 4-2 win over Proline as KCCA lost 2-1 away to Bright Stars.

KCCA have now scored three goals in as many second round matches, winning two of those, including the opener against Mbarara, and losing the other.

What seemed like a mini crisis as they lost to Bright Stars on Tuesday and fans accosted Mutebi accusing him of ‘wrongly’ selecting his team, was allayed by Villa’s victory at St Mary’s Kitende.

Vipers now lead on 42 points, with the reigning champions, KCCA, second and very much in the title defence.

Tooro, whose last outing was a 1-1 stalemate with Kyetume, slipped into relegation following Bright Stars victory over the champions mid-week, and they remain there on 15 points.
